Have you ever wanted to try making your own corn tortillas? For today’s recipe, we’re switching things up by explaining how to make this delicious ingredient that’s used in so many different recipes. Best of all, you won’t need a huge list of ingredients to make them! Let’s begin.
- Canola oil
- A 1 ¾ cup of corn flour (masa)
- Anywhere between 1 1/3 to 1 ½ cups of water
- A teaspoon of kosher salt
Use a large bowl to place the corn flour and salt and then whisk them together so that they combine. Follow by adding water and mixing until all three are combined and turn into a dough. Continue to knead until the dough becomes firm but remains springy. If it feels like it’s crumbling too easily, add some more water if necessary until it comes together.
Separate the dough into small balls, about one to one and a half tablespoons in size. Use a tortilla press and line it with a pair of pieces of plastic wrap. Place the dough between the plastic wrap and press it down so it becomes flat. Repeat the process for the rest of the dough until it’s entirely pressed.
Over medium heat, heat up a griddle and brush it with the canola oil before placing the tortillas on it and cooking until they are charred and cooked through on both sides. This step should take about two minutes on each side. Remove the tortillas and place them on a towel so they stay warm. Repeat the process for the rest of the tortillas.
